The Vision of UMMen in the WNC Conference
United Methodist Men of the Western North Carolina Conference have the opportunity to make a major impact on the many millions of men in our church through the United Methodist Men’s organization in our local churches. The mission of the WNC Conference Organization is two-fold. First, support and resource United Methodist Mens Units throughout our annual conference, and, second, to provide mission support for needs in our conference such as Habitat for Humanity, The Children’s Homes, Disaster Relief and other needs as they arise.
Our group is comprised of the District Presidents of the fourteen districts in our conference, and other support members. Our task is to work with individual churches in support of the formation and health of UMM units.
Through fund raising activities at our Annual UMM Rally each spring at Lake Junaluska and with your help, we physically and financially support what we call our Four Major Emphases.  These are:

• Scouting
  
• The Upper Room Prayer Line
  
• WNCC UMM Support Programs
  
• Ministerial Scholarships for Second Career Pastors
  

Scouting
The partnership between UMM and Scouting offers an exciting opportunity for reaching young people with transforming experience and relationships. United Methodist Men are the largest supporters of Scouting in the country. We provide support to scouting within the church and have adopted their Outreach Mission Project.
You give your support by being “Chartered Partners or by sponsoring scout units in your churches.
Upper Room Prayer Line
   Do you know that anyone in the country can dial an 800 telephone number and have someone pray with them? The United Methodist Upper Room Prayer Line is manned 24 hour per day by volunteer groups such as UMM Units. These volunteers receive prayer requests by phone, pray with those who call and relay the prayer requests to the Upper Room Prayer Center in Nashville, who will send them to Covenant Prayer Groups nationally. Our financial support helps to fund this Prayer Line so that persons may call in toll free.
Children’s Homes
Historically WNCC UMM have provided ongoing support to our conference Children’s Homes by means of various projects. We sponsor a “Walk Around the Lake” each year during our UMM Rally at Lake Junaluska. And we sponsor a fund raising Golf Tournament each year before the Rally. Proceeds from these events sponsor our two Children’s Homes in Western North Carolina.
UMM Ministerial Scholarships
Our UMM sponsored scholarship program each year provides assistance to men and women who are entering the UM ministry as a second career, who will be attending an approved school and who plan to serve in Western North Carolina. We fund six to twelve scholarships each year using funds contributed by UMM units. These scholarships help to buy books and support the costs of these persons who typically are undergoing difficult financial circumstances in order to attend school.
