| The Belmont Community Organization (BCO) |
"The Belmont Community Organization was founded more than 50 years ago to assist our neighbors in need. Each year, the BCO gives out more than 100,000 pounds of food and offers clothing, furniture, household items, and appliances to nearly 1,000 families in your community. (The BCO) also provides financial assistance for medicines, utilities, and rent. Every dollar donated to the BCO stayes in Belmont." "In addition to the daily work of providing life's necessities to qualified clients, the BCO sponsors several noteworthy special projects like providing space heaters and fans, back to school supplies, or a complete fully prepared Thanksgiving meal." (Sources: BCO Q&A and Christmas from the Heart information documents distributed by the BCO.)
For years, Park Street United Methodist Church operated a food pantry of its own. Over time it was decided that by joining forces with the BCO, more good could be done for the community. The BCO accepts donations of items like those listed above, as well as direct or indirect donations of money. Park Street UMC facilitates donations of food and funding on a continual basis and frequently places focus on the BCO for special needs. The BCO is now an independent agency and therefore needs community assistance more than ever before.
